Onipa Ye De/Human Being is Sweet’ was the title of an intensive three-week residency by Magda Fabianczyk. Fabianczyk’s approach to art making embraces a process of 'un-learning' accepted ideas about art and its position in society. Visiting Ghana for the first time, the residency enabled Fabianczyk to visit and meet with Ghanaian artists in both Kumasi and Accra. Facilitating critical discussion, these meetings formed the basis for reconsidering Kwame Nkrumah’s essay 'African Socialism Revisited', which formed the starting point of the residency.

Growing up in communist East-Europe, Magda Fabianczyk brings in her work a sensitive awareness of societal changes brought about by neo-liberal thought. This consciousness is perhaps observed by Fabianczyk’s decision to work with local artisans during the residency. Fabianczyk considers that if labour were to be more appropriately valued by neo-liberal societies it could achieve greater social cohesion.
